5-Star Reviews

An electric gate is a piece of machinery. Like any machinery, it needs regular servicing to run reliably, last longer, and stay safe. Most gate breakdowns we attend could have been prevented with an annual service.

A gate service is not a quick visual check. Your engineer spends 90 minutes inspecting, testing, lubricating, adjusting, and documenting every component in your gate system.

Annual service: £225+VAT | Add to a repair visit: £125+VAT

What's Included — The 7-Point Service

1. Motor Inspection and Lubrication

Your engineer opens the motor housing, checks for wear, corrosion, and water ingress, then lubricates all moving parts. On underground motors, this includes checking the drainage and foundation box condition.

2. Track and Hinge Alignment

Sliding gate tracks are checked for debris, rust, and alignment. Swing gate hinges are inspected for wear, sag, and play. Any misalignment is corrected — this is the most common cause of motors straining and failing prematurely.

3. Safety Edge and Photocell Testing

Every safety device is tested to ensure it responds correctly. Safety edges must stop and reverse the gate on contact. Photocell beams must detect obstructions. These are not optional features — they're legal safety requirements.

4. Remote and Intercom Function Test

All remotes, keypads, push buttons, and intercom handsets are tested. Your engineer checks signal strength, battery condition, and programming. Weak or faulty devices are flagged in the report.

5. Electrical Connections Inspection

All wiring, connections, junction boxes, and the control board are visually inspected for damage, corrosion, water ingress, and loose terminals. Poor wiring is the most common cause of intermittent faults.

6. Force Testing

Your engineer measures the closing and opening force of your gate using calibrated equipment. UK safety standards (BS EN 12453) set maximum force limits — if your gate exceeds them, it could injure someone. Force testing identifies this before it becomes a problem.

7. Written Condition Report

Every service ends with a written report detailing what was checked, what was found, and any recommendations. This is your evidence that the gate has been professionally maintained — important for insurance and liability purposes.

Why Annual Servicing Matters

Prevent Breakdowns

A seized motor, a corroded connection, a misaligned track — these are all problems that develop slowly over months. Annual servicing catches them before they become emergency callouts. A £225 service is cheaper than a £400+ repair with parts.

Extend Motor Life

A well-maintained gate motor lasts 15-20 years. A neglected one lasts 5-8. Lubrication, alignment, and electrical checks all contribute to longevity.

Stay Legally Compliant

If your electric gate is accessible by anyone other than you — visitors, tenants, delivery drivers, the postman — you have a legal duty of care under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008. Regular servicing and force testing are part of meeting that obligation.

Maintain Your Warranty

Most gate motor manufacturers require annual servicing to maintain the warranty. Our written service report provides the documentation you need.

The No-Contract Approach

We don't do maintenance contracts. No annual fees, no monthly direct debits, no lock-in.

Here's how it works instead:

  1. Your engineer services your gate
  2. At 11 months, you receive a reminder by text or email
  3. You book when it suits you — or don't
  4. No commitment, no penalty, no chasing

This works better for everyone. You're not paying for something you might not want. We're not chasing people who don't want to be chased. And when you do book, it's because you've chosen to — not because a contract says you have to.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I service my gate?

Every 12 months as a minimum. If your gate cycles more than 10 times per day, every 6 months. Your engineer will advise based on your usage pattern.

How long does a service take?

Approximately 90 minutes for a standard residential gate. Dual gates (two separate motors) may take slightly longer.

What if you find a problem during the service?

Your engineer will flag it in the written report and discuss it with you. If it's a minor issue, it may be possible to fix it within the service visit. If parts are needed, we'll quote separately. You're never charged for work you haven't agreed to.

Can I combine a service with a repair?

Yes. If you're booking a repair and want a full service at the same time, add it for £125+VAT. This saves you a separate callout and gets everything done in one visit.

Will you remind me when my service is due?

Yes. We send a reminder at 11 months by text or email. No chasing, no pressure — just a heads-up that your gate is due for its annual check.
